October Update

Since we're half way through the first quarter of school, I would like to reflect on some of the topics that we've been studying and learning about so far this school year.
LANGUAGE ARTS: We reviewed the importance of the Six Traits of Writing (Ideas, Organization, Sentence Fluency, Word Choic, Voice, Conventions. We also learned the benefit of personal writing (blogging, journals, goal setting, etc.) In grammar, we've studied sentences and now were studying nouns. Our first quarter bonus word in spelling is PNEUMONOULTRAMICROSCOPICSILICOVOLCANIOSIS.
LITERATURE: We just finished reading our first novel The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare. At times, it seemed a little bit like a Puritan soap opera; however, there are invaluable life lessons learned through the experiences and characters in the book. "People are afraid of things they don't understand." October newspaper and magazine article summaries are due October 28th.
MATH: Chapters one and two have kept us busy with algebra basics, like expressions, equations, and inequalities.
